Yes. All dogs over three months of age must be licensed.
How often does the license have to be renewed?
Dog licenses must be renewed annually between Dec. 1 and Jan. 31.
How much does a dog license cost?
The base fee for a dog license is $16 annually.
How can I avoid late fees?
After Jan. 31, the fees double for all dogs owned more than 30 days. After Jan. 31, if you wait more than 30 days to license a dog over three months of age, the Auditor is required to assess a penalty equal to the fee.
How do I replace a lost license?
If you or your pet loses a license, you can obtain a duplicate tag for 50 cents.
How do I transfer a license to a new owner?
The ownership of a current dog license can be transferred to another owner for $1.

Dog licenses can be purchased at the Ottawa County Auditor’s office, 315 Madison St., Port Clinton, Ohio. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Phone 419-734-6740.

Can I purchase a dog license by mail?
You can purchase a license by mail by printing the application form and mailing to the Ottawa County Auditor’s office, 315 Madison St., Port Clinton, Ohio 43452, along with a check for $16 per dog. A receipt and your tag will be returned to you in the mail.
